Doreen is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 26 km north-east of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Its local government areas are the City of Whittlesea and the Shire of Nillumbik.
Patrick Reid settled the area in 1844, calling it “Hazel Glen”. The Post Office opened on 8 December 1870 as Hazelglen and was renamed Doreen in 1895.
The area contains three private schools (Ivanhoe Grammar School – Plenty Campus, Plenty Valley Christian College, and Gilson College), two primary schools (Doreen Primary School and Laurimar Primary School), a community hall and a CFA fire station.
The Laurimar Estate has a thriving shopping centre with two gymnasiums, several coffee shops, bakery, dentist, deli, a supermarket, a greengrocer, two pizza shops, several ATMs, two cafes, a fish and chips shop, an Indian restaurant, a hairdresser, newsagent, travel agent, podiatrist, dentist, doctor, pharmacist, clothes store and two community centres. Under construction are several more restaurants and takeaways including a Thai restaurant, a jeweler, a bookstore and many more.
